As a marketing guy, social media means a lot to my business. We all know it, it’s where people spend their time. Actually, on average we spend 1 hour and 40 min per day on social media.

That’s why within every marketing campaign, there has to be a social media strategy encrypted within it. However, the term “social media” has become too overused as a static tool with static rules and static expectations. Let’s agree on something early on, “Marketing” is not static, nor is “Social Media”.

How is Marketing NOT Static?

Today when a client asks YOU as a digital marketer for a social media plan, he/she assumes that you’re going to send an editorial calendar with a list of captions, images & videos. As long as it looks nice, he /she will be happy.

But that’s NOT social media marketing!

Social Media marketing is all about creating a relationship with people (AKA: Being their friend). Being there when they need you the most and trying to help them as if you knew each other forever. That’s how people will love your brand and then “Follow” you.

To do this, there are multiple things you can do, and I listed some of them below: 🙂

  • Create a poll about a trending topic and share with your friends
  • Create a promotion offer on Facebook
  • Go to events where your audience is interested in, and go live on FB, TW & IN 😉
  • Start a Q&A
  • Ask people questions via posts to enhance engagement
  • Start conversations with people on social media! Don’t be shy. 🙂
  • Share offers or exciting events that your audience would be interested in on messenger
  • Thank people for engaging and reward them (A little appreciation goes a long way)

and more…

To date, I haven’t found a way to compile this effort in an editorial calendar because I could never know what will work with our audience until we start talking to them. And yes, I mean talking to them and using all the utilities out there to do that. These services are way more than an image or a caption.

Happy Marketing 😉
