I used email for the majority of my professional life to reach colleagues, customers, build communities and more. Today, email is still where it was 10 years ago and it’s DYING, typically because of how bad Slack has been BEATING IT DOWN recently. 😉

Slack is a business communications tool, and so is email. If you think about it, both are used to optimize the internal team communications, and the external community marketing. Recently though, Slack has been the upper hand, pushing email down.

Email!!! NOOOOO 🙁

But how? How can Slack, a newcomer defeat the old mighty EMAIL!?!?

Here’s how: 😉

1- Ease of communication

Today, internal communication within an institution needs to be fast and smart, that’s where email falls back today. Slack is a very straightforward chat-communications platform that integrates with Google Drive, Google Calendar, Trello, Asana, Twitter, Facebook and most probably any tool you could think of! This is so TIME PROTECTIVE for anyone who uses multiple tools at work, like me. 🙂

2- UI is Super Clean!

All the tools we said earlier are put together in the chat UI of Slack. So you typically have someone called Twitter on Slack who sends you Tweets & someone called Google Drive who can help with sharing files. Same for every tool out there! You can literally talk to them directly, this is amazing!

3- Creating Communities with #community 😉

This is a trend that’s definitely growing these days! To be honest, the first Slack community I joined was the Chain community, and it has been super helpful to me. Then, I decided to join other Slack communities like Wamda and more! It’s way cooler than subscribing to a newsletter because you get chat-like updates from the community leaders in the #community channel, you can interact with these updates, and you can chat with anyone in the community (of course without spamming them)!

4- Empower Businesses

When you’re a member of a community on Slack, you can chat with all the community members of #community. Meaning you have a channel for possible partnerships and collaborations right there in front of you. Go ahead!

Also, it’s typical that there’s a #random channel in any Slack interface. You can benefit from it to create friendships, and maybe promote a certain offer you have!

***(Be careful not to spam people)

5- Slackbot got your back!

I love Slackbot! It’s a very polite and funny 24/7 colleague that’s always there to cheer you up no matter what. Slackbot is very helpful, you can ask it to remind you of certain tasks, set meetings, and it’s your FAQ for anything! 🙂

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

In short, communications, and marketing wise, Slack is defeating Email. Well, just think of it, email is still what it was 10 years ago and since then, we’re all 10 years older and it’s time to adapt. Slack took that initiative and is leading it well.

I’ve been using Slack for a while now, so let me know if you have any further questions that are not covered in this post.

Cheers!
